AMERICAN POLISH FESTIVAL
Festival Brand Identity | Summer 2023
The American Polish Festival is a cultural festival sponsored by the American Polish Century Club in the Metro-Detroit area, which is home to one of the largest concentrated Polish populations in the country. The event serves as a way to keep the Polish heritage alive and unite the community through traditional cuisine, polka music and dance, and local artists. Focusing on these ingrained values of unity, community, and history, I created a brand identity for the festival that pays homage to Polish tradition while establishing a modern & fun feel. As a Polish person with familial roots in the Metro-Detroit area, I was inspired by the opportunity to combine my passion for design with my culture and background through this project.
Auditing & Research
The American Polish Festival currently does not have a brand identity. I began my process by auditing the current internal & competitive landscapes, with particular attention to core values and visual identity.
Inspiration
Wanting to respect the festival's goal of preserving Polish history and tradition, I took inspiration found in Polish folk art, traditional Polish dress, and the pysanky egg art I grew up seeing every Easter.

Building a Brand Identity
Inspired by the visual elements found in traditional Polish folk art, I created five distinct patterns which were integrated into the festival logo. By extracting these elements and applying them to patterned tiles and half-tiles, I developed the foundation for the festival's visual identity.
